Things to do in Edinburgh during the Festival

Are you attending the Edinburgh Festival this year? If so, then we’ve come up with a mini-guide to help you have an idea of things to do in Edinburgh while attending the festival. The Edinburgh Festival is one of the most talked about festivals in the UK and is popular with locals and tourists the world over.

This year will be pretty special, because the Fringe, as the festival is known, will be celebrating its 70th year. After it’s humble beginnings back in 1947 the festival is now THE largest festival in the world. It’s a large platform where artists of every description can perform and exhibit their work.

There are lots of things to do while you’re at the festival, so you won’t be bored for a second. You can listen to traditional Scottish pipes of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. If you want laughter, then there’ll be plenty of comedy, many famous artists were discovered while at the Edinburgh Fringe, and you never know, you might find yourself watching a comedy act that’s about to be discovered. You can also attend some theatre as there’s always some excellent theatre companies here during the festival. You can also try dancing, look at some art work and even take part in an art session yourself.

As you will imagine, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the most amazing celebration of culture and art in the world, and is held in August for a period of 3 weeks. It may seem overwhelming, because there is so much to see. It may help to create a timetable of particular acts and performances you wish to see and make a note of where they are and what time they start so you’re not scrabbling around trying to find it and then end up missing it! There’ll be a lot of people there and lots of crowds so knowing where you’re going and what you’re going to see will help make it less stressful. Keep in mind that if you’re not from Edinburgh, you’re going to have the added stress of not knowing your way around, so it helps to plan ahead….and take a map!
